Conceptualize. The Fashion Designer creates clothing, accessories, and product categories that are on-trend and appeal to consumers. With a focus on headwear and apparel, he/she designs multiple consumer products and creates merchandising and marketing campaigns to support product launches. He/She uses their artistic and technical skills to blend current trends with consumer desires, and to create designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Job Responsibilities • Research trends: Study fashion trends and anticipate what will be popular with consumers • Create designs: Use computer-aided design (CAD) programs or sketch designs by hand • Select materials: Choose fabrics, colors, embellishments, and styles for each garment or accessory • Create prototypes: Work with other designers to create prototype designs • Present designs: Present design ideas to creative directors, retailers, customers, or vendors • Manage production: Oversee the final production of their designs • Communicate: Communicate with team members, supervisors, and others to provide information and establish working relationships • Solve problems: Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems
