ABOUT BELLE ANNA

Belle Anna is an independent womenswear brand creating collections across ready-to-wear, resortwear, swimwear, knitwear, and accessories.

Our international team works collaboratively across Los Angeles, Australia, and Bali to bring each collection from initial concept through development and production.

ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT

Belle Anna is seeking an experienced Los Angeles-based Womenswear Designer to support the design and development of upcoming collections on an independent contractor basis.

Working from seasonal direction established by our Creative Director and senior design team, the designer will translate creative briefs, reference imagery, fabric direction, and commercial priorities into original, development-ready designs.

The scope will primarily include design research, CAD development, fabric and trim direction, and design revisions throughout the sampling process. The contractor will collaborate remotely with our Bali-based design and development team, with opportunities to support local sourcing, fittings, photoshoots, and other project needs in Los Angeles.

This engagement is best suited to a mid-level designer who can work independently, interpret an established brand identity, and take ownership of assigned styles and deliverables while responding thoughtfully to creative and technical feedback.

SCOPE OF WORK

Depending on the needs of each collection or project, deliverables may include:

Conducting focused research across runway, vintage, cultural, color, fabric, and silhouette references.Contributing to seasonal mood boards, color palettes, material direction, and design presentations.Translating seasonal briefs and Creative Director feedback into original womenswear designs.Developing thoughtful, commercially relevant styles aligned with the Belle Anna aesthetic.Producing clear hand sketches and detailed CAD drawings in Adobe Illustrator.Exploring multiple design options and revising concepts in response to feedback.Preparing organized, development-ready design files for the technical and production teams.Communicating intended construction, proportion, fabrication, trim, and finishing details.Collaborating with the Technical Designer on the development and refinement of tech packs.Reviewing samples and participating in fittings, either locally or remotely.Providing clear design comments and revisions throughout the sampling process.Refining designs in response to construction, costing, fabrication, and production feedback.Supporting the development of seasonal capsules, carryovers, and updates to successful existing styles.Completing agreed deliverables according to the seasonal development calendar.Maintaining organized and accurate design files throughout the engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Approximately 3–5 years of professional experience in contemporary or premium womenswear design.A strong portfolio demonstrating original design work and a refined understanding of silhouette, proportion, fabrication, and detail.Strong hand-sketching and/or digital illustration skills..Working proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.Experience creating accurate CADs and collaborating on technical packs.Sound knowledge of garment construction, fit, fabrication, and finishes.Familiarity with the full product-development process, from concept through sampling and production.Ability to interpret an established creative direction and translate feedback into effective design revisions.Strong organization, communication, and deadline-management skills.A proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented approach.Professional fluency in English.Based in the Los Angeles area.Ability to participate in scheduled coordination calls with the Bali-based team.

PREFERRED

Experience designing across multiple womenswear categories.Experience collaborating with international development teams or overseas factories.Experience reviewing samples and fittings remotely.Experience sourcing fabrics and trims in Los Angeles.Familiarity with contemporary luxury and international wholesale markets.An existing understanding of Belle Anna’s aesthetic and customer.

CONTRACT STRUCTURE

This is an independent contractor engagement. The scope may be structured around an agreed number of hours, styles, projects, or seasonal deliverables.

The contractor will:

Provide services under a written independent contractor agreement.Maintain control over how and where the agreed work is completed, subject to project deadlines and scheduled collaboration.Use their own computer, software, and standard design equipment.Be responsible for their own taxes, insurance, business expenses, and required registrations.Submit invoices according to the agreed payment schedule.Remain free to provide services to other clients, subject to confidentiality and reasonable conflict-of-interest requirements.

The contractor must be available for regular communication with the Creative Director and Bali-based design and development team, as well as occasional in-person project needs in Los Angeles.

Rates and the initial scope of engagement will be agreed upon based on experience, availability, and project requirements.
