TECHNICAL DESIGNER - soft goods, travel & sporting goods

As a Technical Designer – Travel & Sporting Goods, you’ll be responsible for: Development of original products, exclusive to Target, that achieve overall design vision, express our brands’ values, and deliver on business strategies Drive guest research and user testing to inform and create product solutions that meet the needs of our guest Stay abreast of home industry market trends, and translate those insights and inspirations into trend-right, commercially viable products Conduct market research of competitors, benchmarks, and whitespace to engineer value and guide strategy Collaborate with Design, Merchandising and Sourcing teams to ensure designs are compatible with brand standards, vendor capabilities and pricing goals Partner with domestics and overseas vendors to understand and leverage capabilities; build knowledge of product costing impacts Create and maintain complete and accurate product specifications and approvals within our system Evaluate and approve vendor samples for alignment to brand standards and guest performance expectation Identify/alleviate potential manufacturing and quality concerns within the product development cycle Review production issues and collaborate with Cross Functional Team to resolve Develop, document, and implement technical processes and brand standards Assist in vendor training and certification programs Build solid relationships with team members, cross functional partners and vendors. Travel internationally and domestically to support business as needed About you: 4-year degree in technical design, textiles, product design, or related degree with strong academic performance (3.0 GPA or above) 5-8 years’ experience in textiles/fabrics product development with strong knowledge of construction, quality, and manufacturing Current in industry standard technical knowledge of travel bags, accessories and/or other cut/sew fabric development and manufacturing processes Proficient in use of relevant computer applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, Office 365, InDesign, Concept Board) Robust problem solving and decision-making skills Aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail Adept at working in a fast-paced, often changing, highly collaborative environment Strong verbal and written communication skills Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Target will provide reasonable accommodations (such as a qualified sign language interpreter or other personal assistance) with the application process upon your request as required to comply with applicable laws.
