Student Employment - Specialist I Fashion (Part Time)

Oversee and maintain the Fashion Institute labs and classrooms at South City Campuses of Salt Lake Community College. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Keep labs and classrooms organized (removing scraps, fabrics, paper left on tables)Keep the sewing machines in working condition making sure they have needles, correct thread, feed dogs are up and stitches put back on neutralMake sure there are feet on machines and that they are in working conditionMake sure all sergers are threaded correctly and that the stitches are correct and remove industrial thread from the sergersMake sure all sergers are back in their neutral position and replace missing or broken needlesKeep sergers in their places on the table and lock up all foot pedals for sergersPut serger thread back in the cupboardMaintain the iron with water, removing burned materials from surface, etc.Keep irons full of water and the cords untangledReplace the fabric on iron table when neededManage “lost and found” toolsPut chairs and dress forms back in placeKeep all irons cleanedKnowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to assemble, service and maintain clothing production equipment and machinesAbility to perform basic janitorial dutiesAbility to lift up to 25 poundsAbility to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. Current or past student of the Fashion program who has taken and successfully finished all the construction classesProficient at using and maintaining all types of sewing machines used within the Fashion programGood communication skillsStudent should not be enrolled in the Collection classes during the semesters they are working as a --Specialist
