ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned) Work closely with the Design Director to sketch and plan designs based on seasonal directionDemonstrate expert knowledge and understanding of wovens — concept, design, fabric, fit, and constructionSketch and develop tech packs for in-house pattern makers and domestic/import factoriesFollow designs from initial fitting with the Pattern Maker through final sample approvalResearch and create tests, prototypes, techniques, embroideries, and trims for both import and domestic productWork with factories and local vendors to develop new techniques, treatments, and shapes — following through from proto to SMS to meet calendar deadlinesComment on strike-offs and handloom submits for fabrics and trimsProblem-solve with PD to hit target costs while maintaining design integrityResearch trends online, attend fabric and vintage shows, and stay current with store assortmentsPropose and present new ideas for the collection based on seasonal direction 5-8 years of denim design experience Expert understanding of wovens: concept, design, fabric, fit, and constructionStrong import background required; domestic background is a plusDenim background welcome: knowledge of washes, fabrication, and construction a strong plusExperience with garment dye and washesDirect wash development and fabric innovationTechnical fit knowledge of denim product and construction Technical Skills Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator requiredPLM knowledge a plus
