Role Description

The Merchandising Intern will support the merchandising team with day-to-day activities, including assisting with product selection, assortment planning, and inventory organization across categories such as denim, tops, dresses, and accessories. This internship role is on-site in Chesapeake, VA, and involves preparing product displays, helping maintain visual standards on the sales floor, and participating in seasonal merchandising updates. The intern will help track product performance, gather customer feedback, and support data entry related to sales and inventory. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating samples, preparing trend and competitor research, and collaborating with store and marketing staff to ensure merchandise is presented in a compelling and consistent way.

Key Responsibilities

Generating and updating weekly or monthly sales reports to track product performance and identify top-selling or slow-moving itemsMonitoring stock levels across stores or online channels, assisting with stock transfers, and alerting senior buyers to potential inventory shortagesConducting research on competitor pricing, product assortments, and broader consumer trends to identify new business opportunitiesInputing new product to the website via Shopify

Qualifications

Interest in fashion merchandising, retail buying, or apparel management, with a basic understanding of product categories such as denim, dresses, and accessories.Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and support inventory-related activities.Attention to detail and visual awareness, including a keen eye for color, fit, and style, and the ability to help maintain clear, appealing merchandise displays.Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team, interact professionally with staff and customers, and follow guidance from supervisors.Proficiency with basic computer tools (e.g., spreadsheets, email, point-of-sale systems), and comfort learning new retail or merchandising software.Ability to work on-site in Chesapeake, VA, including standing, moving merchandise, and performing light physical tasks throughout shifts.Current student or recent graduate in Fashion Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred, but all applicants with relevant interest and skills are encouraged to apply.
