Freelance Knitwear Designer

Teri Jon is looking for a proactive and creative Freelance Knitwear Designer to support our Women's RTW team in our New York City headquarters. The Freelance Knitwear Designer will possess great understanding of product life cycle from concept and development to production for our upcoming seasons, working proactively to assist main designer in creating the knitwear collection. The ideal candidate will use creative thinking and logic to solve problems, will have strong communication skills, and be super organized. Responsibilities: Ideate concept with head designer – research, identify key trends and silhouettes, and develop color palette Bring new ideas seasonally for silhouette, stitch, yarn, and embellishment or technique Conceptualize and source all trims with head designer, be responsible for all trim/style sheets Create and maintain creative design boards and presentation materials (both digital and physical) Assist in creation of development requests including detailed yarn and stitch information Create layouts for stitch work and patterns Finalize print layouts and provide artwork to factories Participate in development meetings with yarn mills, factories, color, and print houses Troubleshoot design issues cross functionally and with outside vendors Collaborate with design team and partners to achieve goals within deadline Create Illustrator flats and detail diagrams for seasonal line openings Management of all bulk approvals – establish production standards for quality finishes/trims based on development and design team vision with Technical Design Participate in all internal design meetings and fittings Responsible for all detailed notes and record keeping Qualifications: Be self-motivated and proactive Willingness to have a blended approach to working remote and having an in-person work schedule Team player, excited to learn, highly organized Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Ability to execute tech packs in Excel If interested, please apply!
