Star Children’s Dress Co. is seeking a creative and motivated Fashion Design Intern to join our New York City design team. This is a hands-on opportunity for a current fashion design student who wants to gain real-world experience working alongside experienced designers in the apparel industry.
Our interns will be exposed to the design and development process from initial concept and trend research through sampling and production.
Responsibilities
Assist designers with seasonal collections and product developmentCreate and update sketches, CADs, and design presentationsResearch current fashion trends, colors, fabrics, trims, and silhouettesAssist with fabric, trim, and color selectionsHelp prepare and organize design boards and presentation materialsAssist with sample development, fittings, and sample organizationSupport the creation and updating of tech packs and design specificationsWork with the design team on revisions and comments throughout the sample-development processMaintain organized fabric, trim, artwork, and sample librariesAssist with additional design projects as neededQualifications
Currently enrolled in a Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Design, or related college programProficiency or working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and PhotoshopStrong sketching and CAD skillsBasic understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and trimsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to take direction and incorporate feedbackPositive attitude and willingness to learnAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced design environmentWhat You’ll Gain
This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience rather than solely administrative work. Interns will have the opportunity to work directly with our design team, learn how commercial apparel collections are developed, participate in the sample process, and gain an understanding of how designs move from concept to finished product.
The position is an excellent opportunity to build your portfolio, strengthen your Illustrator and Photoshop skills, and gain practical apparel-industry experience while still in school.
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24.0 – 40.0 per week
