Job Overview
The Director, Store Manager leads a team of People Leaders and Colleagues to drive sales with a focus on the customer. As a leader, they ensure a clean, neat, and organized shopping environment and spearhead initiatives to increase customer loyalty while delivering excellence in customer service. They are responsible for training, coaching, and developing the team, as well as other assigned duties. This role reports to the Divisional Vice President and serves as a developmental step to Senior Director, Store Manager.
What You Will Do
Sales
Analyze business to strategize and deliver results; implement action plans focusing on deficient areas and highlight growth opportunitiesDrive and exceed sales goals through coaching, feedback, and recognition; optimize productivity and efficiencyReview sales, customer experience, and Star Rewards results, and strategize actions for continued improvementUtilize data to provide colleague recognition and develop strategies to improve resultsCreate and implement strategies to drive the Star Rewards Program by setting clear expectations for People Leaders, reinforcing the benefits of new accounts, and motivating colleagues to solicit Star RewardsStrategize, plan, and execute events and community outreach, ensuring execution through People LeadersEstablish a high level of shortage awareness and effectiveness; ensure all policies and procedures are implemented and adhered toAssume a leadership and development role through effective total store communication, staff development, and implementation of selling prioritiesPartner with the division team to plan and execute floor moves, merchandise placement, and sales promotion setupsEnsure merchandising presentation and pricing/signing accuracy meet company standards
Customer Experience
Lead the customer service culture in the store. Ensure colleagues engage with customers and provide a friendly and easy-to-shop environmentEnsure exemplary service and selling capability by role-modeling selling and service skills to influence positive performance among othersWork with People Leaders to build the client relationship between Macy’s Stylists and customers through MyClient and other customer acquisition initiativesEnsure the most effective sales floor coverage through the development of workforce solutions; lead selling initiatives throughout the store as needed
People
Lead a team of People Leaders and colleaguesAlign the team to complete all operational activities in-store, including price changes, ad setup/takedown, merchandising, fulfillment, and RTVs driven by Workload Planning MeetingsDevelop People Leader and Hourly Colleague talent, and address performance issues in a timely mannerConduct ongoing talent analysis of colleaguesEstablish career progression plans for key players and positionsEnsure retention of the best talent and reduce turnoverActively participate in the recruitment process and fill open Executive positions, prioritizing internal movement, commission, and high-level selling areasInterview, hire, train, direct, manage, coach, develop, coordinate, evaluate, and discipline direct and indirect reportsEstablish strategies for work; provide insight and decision supportDirect and manage the team to meet or exceed performance and behavioral expectationsAddress complaints from and resolve problems with colleaguesPerform other duties as assignedFoster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communitiesEnsure regular, dependable attendance and punctuality
Skills You Will Need
Leadership and Team Development: Strong leadership skills to guide, train, and develop team members, address performance issues, and manage talent effectively
Sales Strategy and Execution: Ability to analyze business performance, implement action plans, and drive sales goals through coaching, feedback, and recognition
Customer Service Excellence: Expertise in leading a customer service culture, ensuring engagement, and delivering exemplary service and selling capability
Operational Management: Proficiency in aligning team activities with operational needs, including merchandising, price changes, and sales promotion setups
Communication: Effective communication skills for presenting information to customers and internal/external business partners
Problem Solving and Decision Making: Strong ability to strategize, plan, and execute solutions to achieve business priorities
Who You Are
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.5-7 years of retail management experience in a department or specialty storeThis position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands.Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing laddersMay involve reaching above eye levelRequires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustmentAble to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs
