THE ROLE

The Designer, Trims & Hardware plays a critical role in translating creative concepts into distinctive trims and hardware that elevate Thom Browne’s product categories while maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Reporting to the Design Director, Raw Materials, this role supports the design and development of seasonal trims and hardware across runway, ready-to-wear, accessories, footwear, and special projects, partnering closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and external vendors from concept through final approval.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop seasonal trims and hardware from concept through final sample approval across runway and ready-to-wear, including specific accessories, footwear, and special projectsResearch and identify new materials, finishes, manufacturing techniques, and industry innovations to support seasonal design directionTranslate creative concepts into detailed sketches, renderings, technical drawings, and development packagesCreate presentation materials, design boards, and seasonal development tools to support internal reviews and approvalsSupport the evolution of trims and hardware that reinforce Thom Browne's distinctive design language and elevated craftsmanship standardsPartner with domestic and international suppliers to develop custom trims and hardware that meet design, quality, functionality, and cost objectivesMaintain ongoing communication with vendors regarding development timelines, revisions, prototyping, and sample approvalsCollaborate closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and Runway teams throughout the development processSupport the development of trims and hardware for seasonal runway collections, ensuring creative concepts are executed while maintaining technical feasibility and quality standardsTrack development progress and proactively communicate updates, risks, and solutions to key stakeholdersCreate and maintain detailed technical packages, specifications, BOMs, and development documentationReview prototypes and samples, providing clear feedback to vendors and internal partners to ensure accuracy and qualityRefine designs through multiple development stages while balancing aesthetics, functionality, manufacturability, and cost considerationsUtilize Adobe Creative Suite and other digital design tools to communicate concepts and support developmentExplore and leverage emerging technologies, including 3D modeling and AI-assisted design tools, to improve design visualization and workflow efficiency

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, Accessories Design, or a related field3–5 years of experience in trims, hardware, accessories, product design, or a related development functionStrong understanding of materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, and product development workflowsProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesignProficiency in 3D modeling and rendering tools such as Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar platformsAbility to rapidly translate concepts into detailed renderings, 3D models, and technical visualizationsExperience creating technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, and development documentationStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyExcellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and external vendorsPassion for luxury product development, craftsmanship, and innovation
