Cato is seeking a creative and organized Assistant Technical Designer to support our Merchandising, Design and Technical Design teams and vendors in the timely development of product with good fit, consistent sizing and quality construction. Responsibilities include: • Create technical drawings in Illustrator; • Monitor status of sketches in queue; • Measure garments, set up measurement sets, attend fit sessions; • Help to determine proper fit and solve fit problems; • Review technical comments sent to vendors; • Assist Technical Designers with sample processing and bid package development; • Measure Fit Models to track and update measurements; • Conduct industry research as needed and provide general administrative support to the Technical Services department. Requirements: • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator (CS4 preferred); • Experience with pattern making and garment construction; • A good eye for scale and proportion; • Possess strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills; • A degree in Apparel Manufacturing or Technical Design and/or 1 to 2 years experience in Technical Design is preferred.
